The Mercedes Econic 2630 is the latest 26-tonne low entry cab truck from Mercedes. The 300hp engine is perfect for the operation of the truck and the PTO to power the refuse equipment that is often fitted to this variant of truck. Mercedes have been pushing the Econic 2630 for other uses – as grab loaders, tippers and scaffold trucks for urban use – thanks to the 5 star direct vision rating of the Econic cab. The 2630 model replaced the 290hp version (2629) in 2015 – so you can be sure that if it is a 2630 it is a Euro 6 version and OK for entry into the ULEZ and other similar zones.
Gold Fish Transport saw a clear solution to the need for optimum visibility when working in the capital, in the shape of the Mercedes-Benz Econic. The construction materials distributor runs a fleet of 30 trucks from its base in Brentwood, Essex. Its first two Mercedes-Benz vehicles have just arrived via Dealer Motus Truck & Van. Both Econics – one is a 26-tonner, the other has an 18-tonne gross weight – they were purchased primarily for their safety credentials. With its deep, panoramic windscreen and the fully glazed, folding passenger door specified by Gold Fish Transport, the low-entry model affords drivers…
The workshop is familiar with them, they are reliable over a ten-year working life, but the key factor in Moray council choosing four new Econics was the safety features. All but three of Moray Council’s 29 refuse collection trucks are Mercedes trucks. Vehicle Services & Compliance Manager John Pearson said: “We know from experience that the Econic is highly dependable over a 10-year working life, during which it provides excellent value for money thanks to low running costs and minimal downtime. “It also helps that our in-house technicians are very experienced when it comes to maintaining the fleet, and can…

The most impressive piece of news is that local councils are actually investing in infrastructure for providing services to the residents of the borough. Many councils will outsource the work or underinvest in a fleet renewal programme, but the ULEZ is forcing the hands of some boroughs. Lewisham has acquired no fewer than 39 Econics over the last few years. The council’s latest order of 24 Econics went to Mercedes-Benz Dealer Orwell Truck & Van to complete their waste collection and recycling vehicle replacement programme, adding to the 15 Econics acquired a couple of years ago. One of Lewisham Council's…
Well, we are confused. It seems that Dennis Eagle won the tender for Reigate & Banstead council’s new refuse trucks. Nothing out of the ordinary there. However they are supplying eleven new Mercedes-Benz Econics. The trucks are fitted with Dennis Eagle Olympus Twin Pack compaction bodies, so there you are. Crystal clear. The Econics were supplied by Mercedes Dealer City West Commercials and are significantly cleaner in terms of emissions than the seven-year-old vehicles they have replaced. Their OmniDEL triple bin lifts, meanwhile, are electrically operated – not only are they quieter than the lifts used on previous refuse collection…
