There aren’t too many 26 tonne curtain side trucks on the UK’s roads (when compared to 18 tonners) but, if you come across one, chances are it will be sporting a Volvo badge on the front. Sure, other truck manufacturers sell 26 tonners that are converted to curtainsiders, but it is in this heavyweight segment that Volvo Curtainsiders reign. You will find smaller versions of the Volvo FL and FE curtainsiders at 18 tonnes, but the 330hp+ 26 tonners is where the action is at. So, if you want a smaller 7.5 to 18 tonne curtainsider, go buy a DAF, but for the top weight rigid, it seems Volvo is the place to turn.
Two down, eighty eight to go. Insulation supplier Galaxy Insulation and Dry Lining has taken delivery of two Volvo FE Electric 6x2 rigids as part of the business’ ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. This leaves just 88 diesel trucks to replace to make a significant impact. It is a step in the right direction for a company with a distribution profile of this type as these new arrivals are direct replacements for similarly sized diesel trucks. Supplied by Daniel Byworth, Area Sales Manager, Hartshorne Group, the FE Electrics join a 90-strong commercial vehicle fleet, which already features an…
As part of its ongoing fleet transition from a rival vehicle manufacturer, Butcombe Brewery has taken delivery of its two latest Volvo trucks. The customer’s new arrivals come in the form of a Volvo FE 6x2 and a Volvo FL 4x2 rigid, meaning the Swedish marque now accounts for seven of the customer’s 18-strong commercial vehicle fleet. Supplied by Mike Gill, Area Sales Manager at Truck and Bus Wales and West, the trucks – both sporting eye-catching liveries promoting the brewer’s beers, Goram Zero and Tall Tales – will typically work five days a week, delivering to pubs and distribution…
Sounds like a conquest sale to us. Not a single Volvo bought by Coventry-based Lawton Tubes for over 100 years then, thanks to Rory Kelly, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, a new Volvo FM 6x2 rigid joins the 12-strong fleet. The rigid is mounted with a SlidaFlex body, provided by Fred Smith & Sons. Giles Lawton, Managing Director – Operations, Lawton Tubes, says: “Our fleet delivers as far north as Inverness and as far south as Penzance, so driving performance and reliability are both paramount for us when we are choosing a new…
Bridgend-based TDW Distribution has upgraded its fleet with two new Volvo FE 280 6x2 rigids which will be used to deliver goods into central London as part of a three-year contract with Rockwool Insulation. If you could improve from 8mpg to 12mpg by changing trucks you would not believe your good fortune – or regret not changing the old truck sooner. That’s the case with Elegant Stone, a company that is already noticing significant fuel savings from its new model Volvo FM 8x2 rigid. The architectural cast stone manufacturer has upgraded its two-truck delivery fleet with the new Volvo FM, equipped with a Globetrotter cab and featuring a fully digital 12-inch high-res instrument display, that replaces an older truck from a rival manufacturer. The old unit was doing around 8 mpg but the FM…
